Not sure how to get to Deserta Island from Faro? With this round-trip ferry ticket, you'll cross the Ria Formosa and reach your destination in just 45 minutes. Easy and hassle-free!
The ferry departs from Cais das Portas do Mar and, once it sets sail, the city will fade into the distance before you know it as you find yourself surrounded by the landscapes of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
How long does the trip to Deserta Island from Faro take? It's a 45-minute ride where you'll see the marshlands stretching out like green mirrors, with the brackish water shifting to the rhythm of the tides. Further along, you'll pass sandy banks and barrier islands, tracing soft lines between the Atlantic and the lagoon.
As you approach Deserta Island, you'll spot salt flats, reeds swaying in the wind, and a ballet of migratory birds like herons, terns, and waders.
When you arrive, the silence will wrap around you like a warm embrace. Deserta Island, also known as Ilha da Barreta, is a haven of calm... wind-sculpted dunes, pristine beaches with pale sand, and wooden walkways that protect a fragile ecosystem.
If you love hiking, you can spend your time walking along the shore. But it's also a great idea to lay out your towel in a nearly deserted spot and watch the light shift through different tones throughout the day.
When hunger strikes, you can take a break at the Estaminé restaurant, a special little spot right by the ocean serving up the flavors of the Algarve.
The flexibility of the return trip lets you tailor the experience to your own pace. You can stay just long enough for a quick swim or stretch your visit all the way to sunset. You decide!
