If there is one iconic work of the Italian Renaissance, it's undoubtedly Michelangelo's David. This white marble sculpture, carved between 1501 and 1504 by the Tuscan genius, stands over 5 meters tall and weighs more than 5 tons. Currently on display at the Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze, the piece became a true symbol of the Republic of Florence.

In addition, we will see other outstanding sculptures by Michelangelo, such as the Prisoners (or Slaves), the Matthew, and Palestrina's Pietà.
The museum also houses a large gipsoteca, a collection of plaster casts of sculptures, and a remarkable collection of Florentine paintings from the 13th to the 16th centuries. The most important works include Jacopo di Cione's Coronation of the Virgin and Lo Scheggia's Cassone Adimari. The Museum of Musical Instruments is also located in one of the wings of the Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze.
