Discover the Meteora Monasteries, where the architecture melts into the rocks at over 600 metres high. One of the most mystical and beautiful sights in Greece.
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up by minibus at the indicated meeting point in Kalambaka to begin the journey to Meteora, where you can find one of the most iconic and famous sights in Greece: the hanging monasteries of Meteora.
Following a brief journey of approximately 20 minutes, you'll understand its nickname: these monasteries can be found atop rocky formations 600 metres up (1,968 feet).
During the tour, we'll explain all of the stories and interesting facts about Meteora and its monasteries. The area is one of the most beautiful and impressive in all of Greece, so much so that the producers of Game of Thrones even chose Meteora as one of the places to shoot the series: it was the famous Eagle's Nest Prison, where Tyrion Lannister was kept.
At its peak, 24 monasteries co-existed in Meteora, but with the passage of time and various wars (much was destroyed during the Second World War), today only six can be visited: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, St. Nicholas Anapausas, St. Stephen and Holy Trinity.
We'll visit three of these monasteries depending on the day you decide to take the tour. The visit inside these monasteries is not guided, but we'll give you all the information you need before entering.
At the end of the tour of the Meteora Monasteries, we'll accompany you on the transfer back to the starting point in Kalambaka, where we'll finish the tour after 4 hours.
During the tour, you'll be able to visit the interior of 3 monasteries, depending on the day. Some monasteries are closed on certain days of the week. For example, you should note that the Great Meteoron Monastery is closed every Tuesday. If your reservation is for that day, we'll simply admire the exterior of this monastery.
Please keep in mind that there are no guided tours inside the monasteries of Meteora, but you can download an audio guide to guide you through your visit.
If you cannot participate in this activity on your preferred date, we recommend booking this Meteora sunset trip.
If you prefer to depart from Kastraki, you can also book the day trip to the Meteora Monasteries from Kastraki.
You can book up to 15 minutes in advance if there are any seats left. Book now and guarantee your spot.
