Barranco Free Walking Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we’ll meet on Pedro de Osma Avenue to begin this free tour of Barranco, one of the most charming and historic neighborhoods in the Peruvian capital.
We’ll start our walk by heading to the iconic Plaza de Barranco, a vibrant square steeped in history that was once home to a bustling tram station whose cars connected Lima with the seaside resort of Chorrillos.
Next, we’ll visit the famous Ermita de Barranco, a picturesque chapel built in the mid-18th century by a group of fishermen, whose walls hold fascinating legends. Very close by, we’ll come across the iconic Puente de los Suspiros, inaugurated in 1877 to connect the two sides of the Bajada de Baños. Did you know that tradition dictates that you must hold your breath the first time you cross it for a wish to come true? We’ll have to put that to the test!
From the bridge, we’ll descend along the famous Bajada de Baños, the ancient natural ravine that fishermen and swimmers once walked through to reach the beaches of Barranco. Along the way, we’ll see the lush ficus trees that replaced the old willows, the fuchsia-colored bougainvilleas, and the elegant 20th-century ranchos that still stand today.
During the walk, we’ll also stop to admire the striking graffiti and urban art murals that decorate the neighborhood, created by renowned local artists of international fame such as Jade Rivera, Entes, and Pésimo.
To top it all off, we’ll head to the Barranco lookout point, where we’ll enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding beaches.
After a 2.5-hour tour, we’ll wrap up the free tour near Barranco’s Plaza de Armas.
