Explore the beautiful historic centre of Montpellier and delve deep into its legendary Medieval past on this guided walking tour of the southern French city.
Begin your free walking tour of Montpellier in the Place de la Comédie at the scheduled time. Elegant buildings with cafes spilling out into the square make this one of the most beautiful places in the city. After admiring the Three Graces Fountain, you'll stroll over to the nearby Opéra comédie, home to the Montpellier National Opera. Do you know what shows have proved to be the greatest successes? And which ones have been booed the most?
Not far from the theatre, you'll reach the Tour de la Babotte, one of the most important architectural structures that still remains from the fortified city walls of Medieval Montpellier. Over the ensuing centuries, the watchtower has had many different uses, and it was even the site of one of science's most revolutionary inventions... can you guess which?
Continue your walking tour to Montpellier's Cathedral, the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre. This imposing place of worship may remind you more of a fortress than a church! A short walk away you'll find the triumphal arch known as Porte du Peyrou. See if you can spot the differences and similarities between this archway and the iconic Parisian Arc de Triomphe.
Finishing up your free tour of Montpellier, you'll return back to your original meeting point in Place de la Comédie 2 hours after the start of the activity.
On our free tour of Montpellier, we don'taccept bookings for more than 6 people, even if they are made via separate bookings. If you are a larger group, we recommend booking this private tour of Montpellier.
