Feel like royalty with this guided tour of the Munich Residenz. Find out how Germany's former royal family used to live and admire this palace's splendour accompanied by an expert guide!
Ever wondered how Germany's former royal family used to live? Then this is the tour for you! At the designated time, we'll meet outside the museum on Residenzstraße to kick off this guided visit to the largest city palace in Germany. Ready to be amazed by its interior?
We'll begin the tour with an introduction to the royals who lived within these majestic palace walls. Forming part of the Wittelsbach family, Bavarian royalty lived in the Munich Residenz from the 16th century to the end of the monarchy in 1918. We'll discuss the lives of some of its most famous residents such as King Ludwig I and his son King Ludwig II. Fascinating!
One of the rooms we'll visit will be the stunning Antiquarium, a gem of Renaissance architecture featuring high ceilings, classical statues, and frescoes depicting mythological and historical scenes. We'll also wander into the Court Chapel, also known as Hofkapelle, where we'll reveal its importance in the religious life of the Bavarian court.
We'll also be sure to stop by the Royal Apartments, which offer a glimpse into royal life and the extravagant lifestyle of the monarchs of the past. Can you imagine living somewhere like this?
Alongside a visit to the medieval Stone Rooms and the luxurious Papal Rooms, a tour of the palace wouldn't be complete without going to the Golden Hall, a true highlight of the Munich Residenz. This hall combines opulent decorations with a rich history. As we learn about the restoration efforts that took place here after World War II, don't forget to look up at the ceiling which is covered in stunning baroque frescoes.
Another unmissable spot we'll explore will be the Ancestral Gallery, filled to the brim with portraits of Bavarian rulers. We'll also go in search of the famous Porcelain Cabinet to see the miniature ceramic figurines that live within. The craftsmanship is truly incredible!
After a total of 2.5 hours exploring the over 100 rooms in this magnificent palace, our tour of the Munich Residenz will come to an end. See you next time!
