Tour Details
Meet your tour guide at Jackson Square, on the banks of the Mississippi River, in the heart of the cultural melting pot that has created one of the United States' most iconic gastronomies.
Discover the history of New Orleans' culinary traditions thanks to your guide's fascinating stories. The multitude of foreign ingredients imported to the country through the city's ports; its waterfront location, and the fusion of cultures and nationalities here have inspired and developed delicious recipes that you'll have the opportunity to try throughout the tour.
During the tour, we'll make a total of 4 stops to try 5 varieties of delicious dishes. You'll begin your gastronomic journey, trying one of the city's most famous sweets: the beignet. Fried dough covered in powdered sugar, the locals eat these for breakfast—it has the spongiest texture!
Continue your tour, you'll reach the French Market. A Native American trading post before European colonisation, this is the oldest public market in the United States. These days, it is a contemporary culinary space where you'll see vendors selling all manner of fresh ingredients, and stalls offering everything from traditional New Orleans dishes to more innovative fusion cookery creations.
Exploring the streets of the French Quarter, you'll sample many different varieties of fresh seafood. Learn about the quality spices used to flavour the area's typical cuisine - did you know that Tabasco, made in Louisiana, is an essential addition to many local foods? There's a reason the sauces here are so tasty!
Next, we'll sample one of the most famous dishes in all of New Orleans. Have you heard of Cajun culture? No visit to New Orleans would be complete without a taste of gumbo! This stew blends French, African, and Native American influences—a real treat!
You'll finish off your food tour with a sweet taste in your mouth, sampling a traditional dessert made with sugar cane and nuts, two locally-grown products. A true treat for your taste buds!
