Let yourself be captivated by the great jewel of the Umayyads! With your tickets to the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, you'll visit the interior of the temple with an audio guide in English, exploring a monument that combines Islamic and Christian art.
Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the spectacular Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba is undoubtedly one of the most visited monuments in Andalusia.
With this ticket to the Mosque of Córdoba, you can visit the interior of the sacred site following the narration of an audio guide in English, which you can download to your mobile device via an app.
Inside the monument, you'll find both the Muslim elements and the Christian part of the temple.
Built over the old Visigothic Basilica of San Vicente, the Mosque began construction in 786 by order of Abderramán I, the first independent emir of Córdoba. This leader of the Umayyad dynasty was not the only one who promoted the temple, since other rulers like Al Hakén II or Abderramán III contributed to embellishing it.
Within the area of the old mosque, you'll find the imposing forest of columns, whose horseshoe and semicircular arches are one of the main architectural symbols of Córdoba.
We also recommend taking a walk through the Patio de los Naranjos to admire the mihrab, an octagonal-shaped sacred space that stands out for its beautiful golden dome in the shape of a shell.
After the Christian reconquest of Córdoba, carried out in 1236 by Ferdinand III “the Saint”, the mosque was transformed into a cathedral. Gradually, over the centuries, various Renaissance and Baroque elements were introduced into the new Christian site.
Particularly noteworthy are the altarpiece and the Main Chapel, built in the mid-16th century, the Choir, the organ, and the Transept, which has also been expanded and renovated over the centuries.
Today, the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba is a unique example of the fusion of Islamic and Christian art, architecture, and culture. The audio guide will shed light on the differences, characteristics, and commonalities of both faiths, allowing you to delve into the history of one of the most spectacular temples in Spain.
When booking your tickets to the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba, you can choose between two options that include admission and an audio guide in English.
With this option, you'll have an electronic ticket to the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba and an audio guide to help you explore its most important points. For approximately 45 minutes, you'll marvel at the impressive façade, visit the Patio de los Naranjos, discover the stories hidden in the Mihrab and uncover hidden gems such as the Chapel of Iesu Verde. A vibrant immersion into the architecture and history of this emblematic monument!
This option offers you an even more detailed visit of the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba. For 1.5 hours, you'll learn all the details of the Patio de los Naranjos, the Prayer Room of Abd al-Rahman I and the Prayer Room of al-Rahman II. You'll also discover the Choir Stalls, the Portada del Perdón and the Chapel of Villaviciosa. Are you ready to discover this monument in depth?
