If you're in Istanbul, don't miss visiting the Dolmabahçe Palace. Showcasing the extravagance and class of the Ottoman Empire in its last years, this complex was completed in 1856.
Did you know it replaced the Topkapı Palace as the main residence of the Ottoman sultans? It was designed to reflect the luxury and modernity of the period. Covering 48,4375 ft² (45,000 m²), it has 285 rooms, 46 salons, 6 Turkish baths, and 68 bathrooms. An authentic masterpiece!
With this ticket to the Dolmabahçe Palace, you can explore the Selamlık, the imposing ceremonial room where official state affairs take place. You'll be amazed by the Crystal Staircase and the dazzling salons, adorned with golden details and Bohemian glass chandeliers. In fact, here, you'll find the largest Bohemian glass chandelier in the world, a gift from Queen Victoria.
Another place to visit is the Harem, the private chambers of the sultan's family. Here, thanks to the audio guide in English, you can explore the luxurious rooms as you learn about the daily life of the Ottoman royal family and the mysteries of the royal court.
Finally, the tour will conclude at the National Palaces Painting Museum, which houses a notable art collection that reflects the cultural wealth of the empire, with artworks by Turkish and European artists.
The palace opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm.
