More than 2,000 years of history make the Roman Theatre in Orange a must-see in the city. Also known as the Ancient Theatre, it was built during the reign of Emperor Caesar Augustus in the 1st century. By booking this ticket, you will be able to visit the stage, walk along the stands and imagine what life was like in the city in those days.
For many historians, it is the best-preserved Roman Theatre in the Western world. For this reason, it has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In addition, the ticket includes an audio guide, which will allow you to learn more about the peculiarities that made this art space a totally avant-garde work in its time. From its curious system for projecting sound towards the spectators to the awning that protected the audience from the rain and wind.
To find out more about the civilisation that created the Roman Theatre in Orange, there is nothing better than a visit to the Museum of Art and History. The exhibition allows you to retrace the extraordinary evolution of the city over the centuries.
The museum is housed in a 17th-century mansion and offers a journey through Orange from Antiquity through the Middle Ages to the present day. Paintings, mosaics, recreations of period rooms, busts and many other exhibits await you here.
During the visit, you'll be able to discover, thanks to the audio guide, many curiosities of personalities of great importance for the history of these lands, such as Guillaume du Cornet, Frank Brangwyn, Albert De Belleroche and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. It's a very complete tour!
With your ticket, you'll also have access to the live show "The Keepers of History," which narrates the stories of significant historical figures and their legacy within the theater.
Please note that this show is only represented on certain dates, normally in spring and summer.
The Triumphal Arch in Orange is another excellent example of Roman art in the city. Although the monument is in the open air and has no rooms or floors to visit, by booking this ticket you can discover important facts about this monument thanks to the audio guide.
